It's Spring Cleaning Time; For You & Your Home

flowers

When we think of springtime we always think of spring cleaning.  Whether you like it or not, it’s something that we all seem to do because it just feels right. It’s all about fresh starts, so why not?! I’m totally on board with the spring cleaning trend, but I think it needs to apply to more than just our homes. We need to clean up our minds, too! Spring clean you and your home!

Winter can get long and dreary, so it’s understandable if your mind is feeling a bit dark and dreary too. But now is a great time to brighten it up! Here are my top favorite ways to freshen up your mindset, reduce stress and anxiety, and restore your energy!

Spring Cleaning for You

✨Remove anything that breeds negativity for you. Certain social media accounts or news outlets can spread negativity quickly and suck us into it, creating a negative spiral.

✨Add in anything that breeds positivity for you. Again, certain social media accounts, podcasts, music or videos can leave you feeling inspired and motivated. Spend more of your time on those instead of endless scrolling.

✨Spend more time on things that bring you joy and leave you fulfilled. Family time, a hobby, nature, serving or being involved in the community, time with friends, etc.

✨Start a daily brain dump habit. Spill everything out of your mind and onto paper (or notes on your phone). This frees up space in your mind and you can also know that those things are safe somewhere until you can actually get to them.

✨Start a daily quiet time habit. Give yourself at least 30 minutes with no stimulation from family, work or technology. Journal, read,  meditate, or just simply sit with your thoughts.

✨Open the blinds! Letting sunlight in not only helps our mood but helps kill germs.

✨Open the windows and let some fresh air in. Even if you do this for a few minutes you will be amazed at how refreshed you feel.

Spring Cleaning for Your Home

✨Start with a plan! I like to use a daily plan manager like TOMM or the Fly Lady, but even making a list on a piece of scrap paper can help you feel like you are ready for your plan. If you need, break your Spring Cleaning up into quadrants or rooms and tackle it one at a time.

✨Start top to bottom: This way you catch drips and dust bunnies as they fall.

✨Use Natural Cleaners. Studies show the home to be one of the most polluted places you go all day and this is due to the tendency to keep our homes closed up and the use of toxic cleaning chemicals. My favorite cleaners are from Shaklee. Transparency: I'm a brand ambassador, but I am because I loved the cleaners first! (Affiliate link)

✨Declutter as you go. Clutter causes us to feel chaotic in our minds, by decluttering as we go we help set ourselves to enjoy a more peaceful environment.

✨Set realistic goals. Remember, you live here! It is unreasonable to think your home will look like a photo shoot all the time or a show room. It is also unreasonable to think that 30 years of clutter will be gone in one cleaning session. Shoot to declutter a few minutes each day or week and over time you will reap the benefits!

Wishing you a wonderful spring cleaning inside you and your home!
